Back pain can be severe and common, caused by factors like poor posture, stress, injury, or strain. It often manifests as stiffness, sharp or dull pain in the lower, upper, or middle back, sometimes radiating into the buttocks or legs. It affects a large majority of adults at some point in their lives. Ignoring chronic pain can lead to ongoing misery, and traditional treatments such as painkillers, bed rest, or surgery often fail to address the root issues and may even worsen the discomfort. Our approach focuses on your individual needs to provide comprehensive care. Our approach includes:

  • Comprehensive Assessment: Thorough evaluation to identify the root cause of your back pain.

  • Personalized Treatment Plans: Tailored programs focusing on strengthening muscles, improving flexibility, and restoring range of motion.

  • Manual Therapy Techniques: Hands-on techniques to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and release muscle tension.

  • Therapeutic Exercise: Customized exercises to enhance core stability, posture, and overall spine health.

  • Education and Prevention: Guidance on proper body mechanics, ergonomic adjustments, and strategies to prevent future injuries.

  • Pain Management: Modalities such as heat, ice, dry needling, Graston, or electrical stimulation to alleviate pain and inflammation.

Lets talk about sciatica! If you're curious about how sciatic pain feels, you'll recognize it as discomfort that radiates down the back of the legs and lower back. It's crucial to understand the reasons behind sciatica.

This nerve originates from the lower spinal cord and travels down the back of the thigh, branching just above the knee joint. It's the largest nerve in the human body by diameter.

Sciatica can be caused by various factors, including:

  • Herniated Disc: When the gel-like center of a spinal disc bulges out through a tear in the tough outer layer, it can press against the nerves that form the sciatic nerve.

  • Spinal Stenosis: Narrowing of the spinal canal, usually due to aging, can compress the nerves, including the sciatic nerve.

  • Degenerative Disc Disease: Wear and tear on the discs between the vertebrae can lead to disc degeneration, which may irritate or compress the sciatic nerve.

  • Spondylolisthesis: This occurs when a vertebra slips forward over the vertebra below it, putting pressure on the sciatic nerve roots.

  • Piriformis Syndrome: The piriformis muscle, located in the buttocks, can irritate or compress the sciatic nerve if it spasms or tightens.

  • Trauma or Injury: Accidents or injuries to the spine or pelvis can lead to sciatic nerve compression or irritation.

  • Pregnancy: Pressure on the sciatic nerve can occur due to changes in the body during pregnancy.

Common symptoms of sciatica, include:

  • Pain: Sharp or shooting pain that radiates from the lower back or buttock down the back of the thigh and sometimes into the calf and foot.

  • Numbness: Tingling or numbness along the path of the sciatic nerve, often felt in the buttock, thigh, calf, or foot.

  • Weakness: Muscle weakness in the affected leg, making it difficult to move or lift the leg or foot.

  • Burning Sensation: A sensation of heat or burning along the sciatic nerve pathway.

  • Difficulty in Sitting or Standing: Pain that worsens when sitting for prolonged periods or difficulty standing up from a seated position.

  • Radiating Pain: Pain that may worsen with movement, sneezing, or coughing.

These symptoms can vary in intensity and may affect one or both legs, depending on the location and severity of the nerve compression or irritation. Physical Therapy, lifestyle changes and management are crucial in the healing process. Together we can speed the relief from sciatica.
